CHICAGO, IL, March 22, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Olympic Gold Medal cyclist Marty Nothstein, who will make his NHRA pro debut later this season, will drive in the 34th Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race on Saturday, April 17, 2010 in Long Beach, California.
Nothstein, who competed in the 2008 Toyota Pro/Celebrity event, will square-off with eleven celebrities, four pros and three special guests in the 10-lap race, featuring identically prepared, race-ready Toyota Scions. The Toyota Pro/Celebrity race, which raises money for children's hospitals in southern California, is a support race for the Indy Racing League's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
"It's an honor to be asked back for this great event," said Nothstein, who with the help of his sponsor Texas Roadhouse, is putting the finishing touches on his 2010 race plans that will see him make his pro nitro debut. "My favorite part of the Toyota Pro/Celebrity event is the visit to Children's Hospital. I've accomplished a lot of wonderful things in my life, but when I get to spend an afternoon with children that are battling serious illnesses, life's true meaning really comes into focus."
"As the crown jewel of celebrity race events for more than three decades, the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race continues to attract the most adventurous celebrities and professional racers," said Les Unger, Toyota's national motorsports manager. "Throughout the history of this event we've managed to transform our favorite celebrities into high-speed racers, while also changing the lives of children in need."
Heading the list of celebrities is 2009 celebrity winner Keanu Reeves, who will race in the pro category this year. Other celebrities include Academy Award winning actor Adrien Brody; radio and television host Adam Carolla; television and film actors Anthony Anderson, Brian Austin Green, Patrick Warburton, Christian Slater, Tika Sumpter and Zachary Levi, plus iconic skaterboarder Tony Hawk.
Aside from Nothstein and Reeves, the pro category includes 1996 CART champ Jimmy Vassar; Steve Millen, Toyota MTEG Champion (1986 and 1988), IMSA GT Champion (1992 and 1994) and founder of STILLEN; and Tanner Foust, Formula Drift champion and X Games Rally Gold Medalist.
