Niche Marketing Expert: Retirement Brings With it Opportunities to Become a Niche Entrepreneur
Retirement is a prime time to consider entrepreneurship, said Susan Friedmann, CSP, the niche marketing expert who created her own niche as The Trade Show Coach and has now written "Riches in Niches: How to Make it BIG in a small Market."

/24-7PressRelease/ - LAKE PLACID, NY, June 16, 2008 - (RichesInNiches.com) The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected that the number of Americans over the age of 65 will grow by 77.8 percent between the years 2010 and 2030. Meanwhile, survey data reported last month suggested that baby boomers fast-approaching retirement age might not leave the workforce in the large numbers anticipated by market observers. Retirement is in fact a prime time to consider entrepreneurship, said Susan Friedmann, CSP, the niche marketing expert who created her own niche as The Trade Show Coach and has now written "Riches in Niches: How to Make it BIG in a small Market" to share her insight on how entrepreneurs can find success in niches.

"The opportunities for retired workers who want to start their own business are just too many to ignore," said Friedmann, CSP (Certified Speaking Professional). "Plus, advances in technology for communication and productivity have greatly lowered the barriers of entry to entrepreneurship. This bodes well for retirees, who in previous generations would have faced tremendous logistical obstacles to entrepreneurship that simply no longer exist. In this new environment, 'Riches in Niches: How to Make it BIG in a small Market' shows entrepreneurs how to start their own businesses in lucrative niches."

Author of "Meeting and Event Planning for Dummies," Friedmann, now The Nichepreneur (TM) Coach, has turned her expertise to niche marketing for entrepreneurs. In her new book, "Riches in Niches: How to Make it BIG in a small Market," Friedmann shares the concepts that have enabled her to become a tradeshow marketing expert, a sought-after maven in her own niche who presents workshops at some of the most recognizable Fortune 500 corporations.

Examples such as the following, recently reported in the news, suggested that those well into retirement age are thriving as Nichepreneurs (TM), a term Friedmann uses to describe entrepreneurs in niche markets:

- In a May 12th article exploring niche trends within the wedding planning marketplace, Entrepreneur reported on an 84-year-old man who operates Wedding Ring Workshop USA. His business enables engaged couples to "not only design, but also make their own rings with the guidance of an experienced jeweler," according to the article.

- A news release dated May 17 announced the launch of The Cooking Suite, founded by a retired 68-year-old retiree. The online store offers "discounted, low cost kitchenware products with information pages about cooking tips that focus on healthier eating, recipes inspired by The Suite's Chef, and helpful advice on use and care of the products," the announcement explained.

The largest demographic approaching retirement age, baby boomers, may not be angling to leave the workforce en masse, suggested research reported in a May 15th news release by consulting and training services provider Novations Group, Inc. The firm's survey of "more than 2,500 senior HR executives in North America" found 61 percent characterizing their baby boomer employees as seeming "no more eager to retire than previous age groups" or "not eager to retire."

"Retirement isn't a time to stop working altogether, but to start anew by working at something especially meaningful," said Friedmann. "In the coming years, a deluge of baby boomers doing this will learn that the level of riches available to them in niches is significant. 'Riches in Niches: How to Make it BIG in a small Market' provides them with the map that will get them there."

Friedmann advised those of retirement age who wish to start businesses in niches to follow her GEL Formula, a process for success described in "Riches in Niches: How to Make it BIG in a small Market." Those who follow the GEL Formula (Growing-Experience-Love) first look for markets that are "Growing." They then focus on their existing "Experience." After matching that existing experience with the growing markets calling for it, they finally make a decision on what to pursue by considering what they "Love."
