No Bake Cookies Finally Get a Clean Bill of Health

No bake cookies are great time savers for people on the move. But unhealthy recipes from traditional no bake cookbooks are usually served with a slice of guilt. Now, with the emergence of healthy raw snack recipes, this need no longer be the case...

WHANGAREI, NEW ZEALAND, September 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fitness and nutrition expert Carolyn Hansen says of her latest healthy raw snacks site - which offers a collection of free articles on how to prepare your own healthy raw snacks from natural ingredients, "Like most people, I love to eat delicious snacks. But it was not until I learned how to do away with sugar, flour, and the other unhealthy refined ingredients that normally go into the preparation of snack foods that I finally discovered how to satisfy my sweet tooth without having to put junk into my body to do it."

Carolyn says that most people have no idea how to satisfy their desire for sweet foods without resorting to eating the low nutritional value junk food that seems always to be within reach. "They don't even realize that it possible, because they grow up being served the traditional treats that make liberal use of refined ingredients that we now know are exactly what we should NOT be eating if our long term health is of concern to us. In particular I am thinking about sugar, which the average person today is eating far more than their body can cope with, and which is having consequences that are all too apparent when we look at the national waistline."

She is referring, of course, to the exploding epidemic of diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, coronary disease, and even cancer, which is a direct result of our obsession with food. Unhealthy food in particular.

The statistics on sugar consumption are particularly worrying. A century ago we would have been lucky to be able to consume 5 pounds of sugar in a year. Today the average North American manages to tuck away something of the order of 150 pounds of sugar each year. It is perhaps the primary reason that the population is growing heavier and heavier with each passing year.

With her new line of no bake, no sugar snack recipes, Carolyn thinks she can help tip the balance in favor of a healthier outcome for lovers of delicious treats.

"Sugar can be replaced - and quite painlessly," she says. "Fortunately nature has provided us with quite a few alternative sweeteners to choose from when preparing cookies, bars, and even desserts like ice cream. If you just know what the possibilities are, then you discover there is a world of healthy snacks just beckoning to be made in your kitchen."

An example of a natural sweetener is agave nectar. Another is honey. Carolyn says that dates are a good choice, as are raisins, sultanas, and apricots. "Natural ingredients are essential to creating healthy snacks, but not all natural ingredients are healthy for you. My goal when putting together a recipe is that the result should be wheat-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, and unprocessed. Plus I don't cook anything."

Have you ever tried to make a cake without having to bake it? Or tried to whip up desserts like chocolate mousse, cookies, and ice cream without using sugar, flour, dairy, soy, or eggs as ingredients? For most people this probably seems impossible. But for Carolyn Hansen it is simply a challenge. Not only is it possible, she says, it is by far the PREFERRED way to prepare snacks and desserts.

Moreover, she claims most people will be surprised to discover just how easy it is to make her recipes, many of which she has collected together and published in her book "100 Healthy Raw Snacks And Treats". Not only will the nutritional ingredients that make up these treats make you look and feel great, she says, but they taste incredible too.

"Recipes like the ones you will find in my book, and on my web site, represent a way for you to dip into this amazingly healthy food lifestyle and at the same time take away the guilt that normally goes with eating something that tastes delicious."

She may be right. With more and more people looking for alternative foods that are healthy but tasty, the raw foods movement of which Carolyn's snack recipes are a part, seems to be gaining more and more attention worldwide.
