Nominations Now Being Accepted for Sixth Annual WorkBoat Environmental Awards Which Recognize the Maritime Industry's Environmental Stewardship

Sixth Annual WorkBoat Environmental Awards, recognizing the marine industry's commitment to environmental stewardship, is now accepting nominations. Deadline is August 1, 2013, with awards presented at 34th International WorkBoat Show in October.



    NEW ORLEANS, LA, May 24, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Sixth Annual WorkBoat Environmental Awards, which annually recognizes the marine industry's commitment to environmental stewardship, is now accepting nominations from businesses and government agencies operating in the maritime market. The application deadline is Monday, August 1. Details and the application are available here.

"The Awards are an outstanding way to showcase leading maritime businesses and government agencies and the incredible variety of innovative environmental practices in the industry," said Bruce Buls, technical editor, WorkBoat magazine, which presents the awards.

The 2013 awards will be presented during the 34th International WorkBoat Show, North America's largest maritime trade show and conference, which will be held at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans from October 9-11. The WorkBoat Environmental Awards Ceremony will be held on October 9th as part of Shipyard Day.

The WorkBoat Environmental Awards are for initiatives that are over and above regulatory compliance. To be eligible for the awards, businesses and government agencies must be operating in the maritime market. There is a $50 application fee.

A committee comprised of industry and media representatives will review nominations and may award the following honors:
- Best New Idea
- Best Collaboration (involves community groups, other agencies or customers)
- Best Shipyard Initiative
- Best New On-Board Idea
- Best Company-Wide Plan Small Business (less than 50 employees)
- Best Company-Wide Plan Large Business (more than 50 employees)

This year's selection criteria include:
- Metrics: Measureable goals & results
- Impact: Overall impact to the organization and/or industry
- Programs: Expanse of the idea or plan
- Innovation: Innovative elements
- Reductions: Actual reductions achieved

The selection committee will pay particular attention to the following:
- Extent the company exceeded regulatory requirements.
- Benefits accrued to the company (improved efficiency, cost savings, public image, and employee morale), the public (safety and health) and the environment.
- How the company is model for others (transferable information).
- Changes the company had to make in order to achieve success.
- Information outreach (internal and external)
- Special emphasis on projects that provide tangible economic and environmental results (please provide summary data).

Firms can be past award winners who take their performance to a new level.

This year's judges include: Sarah Branch, Regulatory Affairs Manager, Offshore Marine Service Association; Bruce Buls, Technical Editor, WorkBoat Magazine; Laurie Counsel, Energy and Environmental Relations Director, Cummins Inc.; Peter Lauridsen, Regulatory Affairs Consultant, Passenger Vessel Association; David Santos, Commercial Craft Segment Manager, ZF Marine LLC; and, Christina Villiott, Director of Marketing, Elliott Bay Design Group.

Award recipients will receive a plaque, recognition in the November issue of WorkBoat magazine, the WorkBoat Show Daily, and publicity on the event and magazine websites, newsletter, and press releases.
