Non-Profit Arizona Farmers Market Now Offering Pay What You Can Option

Arizona-based Farmers Market Working to Feed Those Who Can't Afford to Buy Fresh, Local Food

SIERRA VISTA, AZ, September 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Arizona's High Desert Farmers Market is now offering low-income residents the ability to purchase fresh, local foods on a Pay What You Can basis. Claims current food system doesn't support those who are financially challenged.

Although farmers markets tend to be of great benefit to any community as they offer local residents the ability to buy fresh, local foods, not everyone can afford to pay the prices associated with farmers markets. It's well-known and accepted that foods sold at a farmer's market cost more than foods sold at the local grocery store. Although some farmers markets do accept monies from government-based food programs, the percentage of recipients makes up less than 5% of farmers market consumers. Manager Laura Foor says, "This percentage is much too small, so we feel the need to do our part so that anyone can have access to the fresh and healthy foods that everyone deserves to eat."

The High Desert Farmers Market is a 501c3 Arizona nonprofit that focuses on organic food choices. They also offer a variety of educational services so that everyone can understand just how important fresh food choices are to their overall health. In order to continue their mission, they're requesting donations that will allow them to continue to feed those in need.

The High Desert Farmers Market currently offers locally grown fruits and vegetables, farm fresh eggs, locally made salsa, fresh roasted coffee beans, organic lettuce, organic herbs, quality baked goods, homemade soap bars, local plants, and a few locally made crafts.

Our mission is simple - Everyone Eats. Because the High Desert Farmers Market is a Pay What You Can Farmers Market, anyone can afford to buy the local and/or organic food choices we offer.
