THE FORKS, ME, May 11, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Northern Outdoors will host its first ever Raft 'n Draft 'n Mud run May 30-31st: a weekend of Dead River rafting with Maine brewery tours, beer tastings, a pig roast, 4 mile Mud run, and live entertainment at its Kennebec River Brewery - in The Forks, Maine.

Founded in 1976, Northern Outdoors is a premier four-season adventure resort, catering to seasoned outdoor experts as well as first-time adventurers. The Raft 'n Draft 'n Mud Run kicks off with a full day of rafting on the Dead River. With more continuous whitewater than any other river in the East, this dam-controlled river has only 10 high water releases a season with heart-pounding Class III, IV, and V whitewater.

Participants return to Northern Outdoors and its Maine brewery for a pig roast, brewery tours, beer tasting, and live entertainment. The next day participants can run for laughs and zany prizes in Northern Outdoors' first ever 4-Mile Mud run on Sunday morning, May 31st. It's a unique way to enjoy Maine's mud season!

Northern Outdoors' Maine brewery gets rave reviews from guests and staff alike. Fresh beers are handcrafted at the resort's onsite brewery, and are available on tap at the brewpub in the resort's main lodge. Northern Outdoors launched the microbrewery in 1997 because several of their staff were microbrew connoisseurs and they had the perfect setting for production. It was a natural fit from the very start.

"Our Beer Sampler, a tray of 5 Maine brewery beers in 4 ounce glasses, is always one of the most popular menu items here with guests." says Jim Yearwood, Vice-President of Northern Outdoors and founder of the Kennebec River Brewery. "Adding a Maine brewery event to a favorite Dead River rafting weekend was an obvious choice. The Mud Run is pure fun to top off a great weekend."

Northern Outdoors' Maine brewery tries to keep 6 beers on tap at all times. They include these favorites, several are named after exciting rapids on the three rivers Northern Outdoors runs: Northern Lights, Kennebec Summer Ale, Kennebec Logger, Ripogenus Red, Class V Stout, and Magic Hole I.P.A. The brewery is named The Kennebec River Brewery, and pure Kennebec Valley water is used in their beer production.
