AMMAN, JORDAN, September 08, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in Bahrain has launched its Third Ramadan Charity Campaign in cooperation with the Islah Society.

The campaign involved 20 students and several administrators who distributed food parcels to needy families all over the kingdom.

NYIT's Executive Chairman for the Middle East Dr. Mohammed Hussein said: "Through the charity campaign, we seek to encourage students to help the underprivileged brackets of the society and to engage in real-life activities and voluntary work," emphasizing the importance of engaging students in such activities that enhance initiative and a sense of belonging among them.

The parcel included essential food items that meet the needs of targeted families throughout the holy month.

Dr. Hussein added: "NYIT-Bahrain cares to aptly shoulder its social responsibility and places assisting impoverished families as a top priority," underlining cooperation with concerned government agencies and charity organizations in the field of social work.

He said: "We are in constant search for the best ways to complement the state's efforts to support he local community on the one hand, and involve students in these programs to enhance their capacity and polish their skills, on the other. Since its inception in 2003, NYIT has been in the forefront of academic institutions that support youth at the academic, social and sports levels".

Last year's Second Charity Campaign, in which 25 NYIT students took part, covered a total of 104 needy families in Bahrain.

Funds for the effort have been raised through in-campus and off-campus campaigns, which saw NYIT set up a booth to collect cash and in-kind donations at City Center.
