O'Connor Marketing Ask: Are Australian Entrepreneurs Being Paralyzed by Fear?

Entrepreneurs are regularly told not to fear failure, and that setbacks are vital to their learning experience. However, sales and marketing firm O'Connor Marketing are concerned that for today's entrepreneurs this is easier said than done.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, August 26, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A recent study commissioned by Servcorp in conjunction with Galaxy Research, published by Smart Company on 13th August 2015 claimed a 'fear of failure' as one of the main concerns among Australian entrepreneurs. The study, titled 'What's holding you back?' found that 19% entrepreneurs and business owners revealed that a fear of failing had caused them to become hesitant when it came to making certain business decisions. 37% of the 500 business owners and entrepreneurs surveyed in the study stated that their fear of failure stemmed from concerns about money, whilst 33% were more worried about leaving behind job security. The study also found that younger entrepreneurs are most affected by feelings of fear, with 25% admitting that they regularly worry about their ventures failing or making the wrong decision.

O'Connor Marketing recognises that the fear of failure is a natural human response, and that people are hard wired to be wary of the unknown. However to succeed in business, entrepreneurs need to override this natural response if they are to fully follow their dreams and accomplish their goals. Whilst the firm were aware of the impact fear can have on a business professional they were shocked to learn of the results of the study and just how widespread the fear of failure is among Australian entrepreneurs. This is because O'Connor Marketing believes that there is now more support and resources available to entrepreneurs than ever before, which if utilised has the potential to drastically reduce failure and make the entrepreneurial journey more enjoyable. Networking events, free seminars, and even online tools and guides can all help to ease the pressure of entrepreneurship and the firm are urging entrepreneurs not to overlook these vital resources.

O'Connor Marketing believes that in order to reduce the fear of failure entrepreneurs must make an effort to go out every day and try new things. By broadening their horizons and experiences O'Connor Marketing are confident that entrepreneurs will be able to develop their understanding, and skill set, which will ultimately lower their chance of failure. The firm regularly instill this belief among their workforce and plan as many travel opportunities, seminars and conferences as possible so that their representatives can gain new perspectives and build up their experience within the business sector. The firm also offer support to their representatives, the majority of whom hope to start their own ventures in the future, by providing them with mentorship and the opportunity to take on more responsibility as they progress through the company. This allows their representatives to expose themselves to risk and adapt to new situations, which is a core practice in entrepreneurship and business ownership.
