Ohio Dominican University Recognized By G.I. Jobs Magazine

Ohio Dominican University's veteran education program is listed as a G.I. Jobs magazine Military Friendly School for 2010.

COLUMBUS, OH, August 21, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ohio Dominican University's PATRIOTS program has been selected by G.I. Jobs magazine (www.gijobs.com) as a Military Friendly School for 2010. This honor places ODU in the top 15 percent of all schools nationwide.

Ohio Dominican first launched the PATRIOTS Program 20 years ago to meet the educational needs of returning Vietnam veterans. Through PATRIOTS, veterans can achieve their academic goals, pursuing either an associate's, bachelor's or master's degree. The university recently reintroduced the PATRIOTS program in response to a new benefit being offered by the Veterans Benefits Administration -- the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, also known as the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act enables those veterans who qualify for the educational benefit to earn a college degree. Depending on the number of active duty months they have served, Post-911 veterans in Ohio may qualify for as much as 100% of their schooling expenses, with generous allowances for monthly living expenses, books and student activity fees. Veterans may receive up to 36 months of entitlement (or four academic years).

Retired Major General Dennis Laich, AUS is ODU's PATRIOTS program director. Laich provides one-on-one assistance to veterans, linking them with the resources they need to meet their educational goals. Following a distinguished 35-year career in the Army Reserve, Laich began his business career in 1972 with Corning Glass Works and went on to hold management positions with LTV Steel and Navistar International. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Lafayette College and master's degrees from West Virginia University and St. Francis College in Business Administration and Labor Relations, respectively. He completed postgraduate studies at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and is a graduate of the Army War College.
