Omer L. Rains Named to Exclusive Membership Organization

Omer L. Rains, Philanthropist & Humanitarian, Helps Build Libraries in Rural and Remote Areas



    BEDFORD, NY, December 4, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ --Omer L. Rains, President & Board Chairman of Rural Education and Development (READ) Global, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in philanthropy.

A former California Senator, Mr. Rains has parlayed his experience in public service, law, and international finance into yet another career as a philanthropist and humanitarian. In 2005, he brought his talents to Rural Education and Development (READ) Global, a non-profit organization that constructs libraries and economic development centers in rural and remote areas in developing countries such as Nepal, India and Bhutan. Mr. Rains focuses his efforts on indigenous peoples and recently dedicated the first of many new libraries in India, where he is now spending considerable time. He is proud to be associated with an organization that advances the cause of sustainable rural development through the balance of educational, economic and community initiatives. He finds deep personal fulfillment in making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Rural Education and Development (READ) Global to date has built more than 50 libraries across Nepal, India and Bhutan. Having received recognition from numerous charitable and philanthropic organizations, and having been the recipient of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Access to Learning Award and with it a grant of $3 million, READ is now set to take its programs into five more developing countries in the next three years.

Sen. Rains, the recipient of numerous academic and professional awards, holds a Doctorate of Judicial Science degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, both from the University of California, Berkeley.
