JACKSONVILLE, FL, March 28, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- What do you do when you've built a business for years, then suddenly discover that your passion lies elsewhere? If you're Lynn Maria Thompson, you start all over and build a new brand to exercise that passion.
Thompson did just that with OldMaidCatLady.com, an online retailer for cats and cat lovers, added as a division of her writing and editing business in 2010. She will be exhibiting at The Jacksonville Landing seeking funding to expand it during One Spark, the world's crowdfunding festival, in Jacksonville, Florida April 9-13. Thompson will also make a brief pitch for her project, "Expansion for Old Maid Cat Lady," Friday, April 11 at 2:30 pm on One Spark's Pitch Deck 1 at Hemming Plaza. She is one of over 600 Creators at the festival, now in its second year.
Along with Thompson will be her two chief product testers and brand ambassadors, Captain Roughy and Gilligan, also known as The Golden Boys. She adopted the two red mackerel tabby cats after first fostering them when they were brought to Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services as motherless strays in 2012.
"In Old Maid Cat Lady, I have truly found my passion," says Thompson. "Before this, I'd worked in the corporate world and had been in business for myself as a writer and editor. To do something that's such great fun, and also has the potential to save lives by helping cats find and remain in loving homes, is just beyond anything I'd ever imagined doing before. But after four years, it's grown beyond what I'm able to manage by myself, so it's time to expand the team."
Those wishing to vote for Old Maid Cat Lady to receive a portion of the $310,000 in One Spark funds must physically be in the festival area in order to vote on a smartphone or at one of the festival kiosks. The project number is 20159. Supporters may also donate money directly from their smartphones to the projects they think are worthwhile. This year, donations may be made from anywhere in the world. Additional $10,000 bonus payments will go to the One Spark projects receiving the most votes and the most donations.
Venture capitalists and angel investors interested in the Old Maid Cat Lady concept can obtain an Investor Packet at the Old Maid Cat Lady exhibit during the festival. In addition to Thompson and The Golden Boys, there will be information about Old Maid Cat Lady and some other special surprises at the exhibit.
