There were hundreds of missing persons requests coming into the NCMEC center by the end of the day, that they decided to create a hotline to locate and reunite Hurricane Katrina victims in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. Individuals can visit http://www.crimeweb.net and register to receive alerts of missing children and adults from New Orleans, or they can click on the NCMEC graphic to view several missing children who have not been connected with their caretakers or they can call NCMEC at 1-888-544-5475 for information and instructions. Concerned loved ones may also visit http://www.familylinks.icrc.org/katrina/locate to post information on the American Red Cross' newly created site.
Anyone can subscribe to receive alerts or search for alerts on the CrimeWeb system. There is absolutely no cost to receive alerts. With over 15,000 subscribers in the southwest regions of the United States, concerned citizens and victim's loved ones may search alerts with detailed information as well as pictures of missing individuals affected by Hurricane Katrina's aftermath.
