SALT LAKE CITY, UT, February 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Orbit Medical, one of the leading nationwide providers of mobility devices including power wheelchairs and manual wheelchairs, will be donating thousands of dollars of mobility devices to victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Manual wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, and other medical equipment will be donated to aid patients in need of care.

The earthquake that hit Haiti recently has emergency response teams working overtime and getting supplies and airplanes into the country is very difficult. The shortage of supplies has required mandatory amputations leaving the victims without mobility.

Dr. Daniel Egan, a medical doctor from Ogden, Utah, has been treating Haitian patients around the clock and has observed the great need for medical equipment.

When asked what the worst thing he has had to do, Dr. Egan replied, "too many amputations."

The mandatory amputations being performed have been as a result of infection and injuries that doctors are unable to treat due to limited supplies and lack of timely medical treatment.

Orbit Medical will be giving the mobility aids to Haitian Roots, a non-profit organization. They have secured a plane that will be leaving this Saturday and flying to Port Au Prince, Haiti. Jake Kilgore, Vice President of Sales at Orbit Medical, said he is pleased with the fast response.

"We just hope our medical supplies will bring hope to the victims after this horrible tragedy," Kilgore said.

As one of the largest medical equipment companies in the United States, Orbit Medical is focused on helping people with limited mobility, and this is a great opportunity to bring hope to victims of Haiti in need of mobility. Orbit Medical has 22 offices throughout the United States and is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.
