AUSTIN, TX, March 19, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The life you lead is unique to you. So why shouldn't you have the same flexibility when it comes to orthodontic treatment? For most people, a beautiful smile is the most obvious benefit of orthodontic intervention. After your braces come off, you'll feel more self-confident. During your treatment, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Mary Kay Becher encourages all prospective patients to come in for a free consultation. Your first visit will include photographs and a panoramic x-ray that will help Dr. Becher determine the need for and timing of orthodontic treatment. In short, it allows Dr. Becher to recommend the course of treatment that may be best suited to you.
Orthodontic Treatment and YOU
The orthodontic appliances you select may be made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to a corrected position. This is a great time to wear braces! Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can choose brackets that are clear or metallic color. You can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire in brackets. Wires are also less noticeable than they used to be and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort to patients.
Duration of Treatment
You have things to do. Places to go. The duration of your orthodontic treatment typically ranges from one to three years, depending on the growth of the patient's mouth and face and the severity of the problem. Patients grow at different rates and will respond variously to treatment, so the time to case completion may differ from the original estimate. The patient's diligent use of any prescribed rubber bands or headgear is an important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment. Interceptive, or early treatment procedures, may take as few as six months.
It All Starts With That First Visit
We understand that each patient's orthodontic treatment is different and we promise to give you the individualized care you deserve. The first visit will include photographs and a panoramic x-ray to help Dr. Becher determine the need for and timing of orthodontic treatment. This information also helps us to demonstrate our finding.
If treatment is indicated we will then complete diagnostic records which will include models of your teeth. This information will be evaluated by Dr. Becher prior to your next visit to confirm our initial clinical findings and to help customize your treatment. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.
Remember, the duration of your orthodontic treatment represents a commitment on the part of the patient and on the part of Dr. Becher. Patience and communication are key as is investing in the time and discipline needed to accomplish the necessary goals and treatment necessary to create a winning smile that will last a lifetime.
