TAMPA, FL, April 22, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/
-- The summer is one of the best times of the year to perform regular maintenance on your home, including your garage door. Overhead Door Tampa's technicians have several tips on how to properly maintain your garage this summer.
Your first step in tending to your Tampa overhead doors
should be to wash away the grime that has accumulated on the door itself and its windows. Springtime in central Florida comes with heavy pollen counts, and your garage will inevitably be covered with seasonal gunk by the time summer rolls around. Simply use a mild household soap and water to wash the entire exterior.
After you have washed your overhead roll-up door
, you will be able to see much more of what is going on with your door and the mechanics that support it. Visually inspect all of your hardware for wear and tear and have an Overhead Door Tampa repairman fix or replace any problematic parts.
"While you are inspecting your door, keep an eye out for rust and flaking paint," says Bob Briesacher, President of Overhead Door Tampa. "Rust and paint issues don't always indicate a problem, but they should be dealt with."
Sand away any problem areas on your door, apply a primer with a high zinc content, and cover the spot with a high-quality latex paint designed for exterior use. If the rust is on hardware, have it replaced immediately.
During your inspection, go ahead and lubricate all moving parts of your garage door system with a high-quality garage lubricant. Remove any debris or grease buildup from around the track before you perform this step. Remember that nylon and plastic parts do not need lubrication.
