Pakistan Shuts Down Facebook, YouTube, Others in Reaction to Mohammed 'Blasphemy'

Pakistan has blocked access to Facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia and other popular web sites accused of blasphemy in their use of material portraying the prophet Mohammed.
    May 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pakistan has blocked access to Facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia and other popular web sites accused of blasphemy in their use of material portraying the prophet Mohammed.

Triggering the action was a Seattle cartoonist's satirical suggestion that Thursday be dubbed "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day." A Facebook page promoting the idea drew tens of thousands of members. An Islamic lawyers association in Lahore, Pakistan, argued that the contest essentially equaled blasphemy and won a court injunction against the social-networking site.
