LOS ANGELES, CA, January 12, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Papillion Institute of Art (P.I.A.) opens its 2012 season with the visceral exhibit "Cuba: Life After the Revolution" by photographer Eric Berry. The opening reception will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. There will be a special selection of Cuban sounds played by Armando Figueroa Cuban Trio the last hour of the opening. Michelle Joan Papillion founder of P.I.A. and Berry attended Howard University at the same time but did not cross paths until coincidently they met for the first time in Belize where both were on an excavation in the Mayan Highlands. She explains, "We were in a place called Maax Na. I was excavating and he was doing a student film, a documentary about Black archeologists. In a recent conversation (in Los Angeles) he described his experience in Cuba and how he was profoundly moved by the quality of life he saw and the yearning of the people to have something better. This exhibit is not the history of Cuba, what it is, is a small glimpse at life after the revolution." Berry booked a flight to Cuba in the fall of 2011 to document how life had changed in the country since the Cuban Revolution. Armed with only one battery, no charger, and $600 in cash, he spent 15 days traveling around Havana, Trinidad, Santa Clara, and Viñales documenting the moments, people and locations that stood out to him.

About Eric Berry: Eric Berry is a Los Angeles-based travel and street portrait photographer. He was first introduced to photography during his studies at Howard University, but it wasn't until years later that his passion for the art truly blossomed. Eric has traveled around the United States capturing images, but he's most proud of his work in foreign destinations like Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Cambodia and Thailand. During a 2010 trip to Nicaragua, Eric captured multiple images that would go on to win several international photography competitions, and be recognized by the Los Angeles Times. "That was a turning point for me," Eric explains. "I knew then that this was what I wanted to do." His website is http://www.Thelifeoferic.com.
