/24-7PressRelease/ - SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, June 27, 2007 - Paris Hilton, the celebrity socialite and actress, had planned, as first reported last week by Brenda Booth, the NY Post gossip columnist, to attend the June 23 book signing in Saratoga Springs, NY for "The Knuckleball From Hell," the acclaimed new novel by Michael Wayne that is currently making its way up the NY Times bestseller list. She was going to attend it along with her mother and the celebrity socialite and philanthropist Mary Lou Whitney because she had been offered a substantial role in the film version of the book.

But as first reported by Belinda Booth, the gossip columnist of the L.A. Times, and the sister to the NY Post's Brenda Booth, Paris Hilton's lawyers had requested a weekend furlough from prison in order for Hilton to attend the book signing, and they were under the assumption that it would be granted. But when Judge Michael Sauer, the presiding judge in the case, heard that Paris Hilton was packing her bags and preparing to leave the prison, he decreed that she could not leave and emphatically barred her from attending the book signing. According to Belinda Booth, when Paris Hilton found out about Judge Sauer's decree, she started crying and shouted out to her mother, "Mom, why is he doing this to me?"

Even without Paris Hilton, the June 23 book signing for "The Knuckleball From Hell" went over well, as enthusiastic crowds stood in line for hours to purchase a copy, although many in the line admitted they were there to see Paris Hilton. Reached after the book signing, Michael Wayne, "The Knuckleball From Hell" author, told Belinda Booth that he was sorry to hear about Paris Hilton's problems with getting to the signing, and then added, "I am very grateful to all my fans who showed up today."
