    /24-7PressRelease/ - NASHVILLE, TN, June 29, 2008 - Envision, Inc (www.EnvisionInc.net) has received a 2008 WorldFest Houston International Silver Remi Award for the video production of "Partners in Care: Drug Resistant Organisms - for Patient Education".

Winning in the Film & Video / Adult Educational-Instructional category, the video program educates patients and their families on the ever-increasing cases of drug-resistant organisms (DROs) and their associated infections.

The program covers evidence and expert-based practices and guidelines set by the Joint Commission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other leading healthcare organizations, including:
• Who is at risk for DROs
• Preventing transmission of infectious germs both in a hospital setting and in the community
• Isolation procedures and the importance of following facility protocols
• The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including gowns, gloves and masks
• And the "number one" way to prevent the spread of infectious germs: Hand hygiene.

Additional infection control practices for the home include;
• Environmental cleaning (cleaners and disinfectants)
• Laundry practices
• Avoiding sharing personal care items
• Proper wound care
• And, again: Thorough hand hygiene

The CDC has estimated that health care-associated infections alone account for 2 million patient illnesses and result in about 100,000 deaths every year. Treatments for these infections add billions of dollars to patient care costs and prolong hospital stays.

The Joint Commission's mandate for reducing health care-acquired infections, such as Drug-Resistant Organisms, is included in their National Patient Safety Goals and updated every year. The purpose of the goals is to highlight problematic areas in healthcare, describe evidence and expert-based solutions and promote patient safety.

Some of the most prevalent DROs today are Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA), and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE). Many organisms and bacteria have also developed resistance to multiple drugs (MDROs). In 2005 the number of people who developed a serious MRSA infection was over 94,000. Although once attributed to infectious germs in health care facilities, community-associated infections are on a serious rise and found anywhere people are close and touch objects. Today, outbreaks are often seen in fitness facilities, schools and daycare centers, food service establishments, sports teams, and within families.

The "Drug Resistant Organisms" video is part of an important seven-part series that Envision developed for patient education. The "Partners in Care" series also includes: "Understanding Advance Directives", "Your Role in Fall Prevention", "Your Role in Infection Control", "You and Your Medications", "Controlling Your Pain", and "Your Rights and Responsibilities".

The WorldFest Houston International Film Festival is one of the largest film & video competitions in the world, with more than 4,500 category entries received from 37 countries in 2007.
