/24-7PressRelease/ - HENDERSONVILLE, TN, December 16, 2007 - In a climate where the secular world and the Christian world view sometimes clash over the true meaning of Christmas, and the ACLU and the American Atheists yell for separation of church and state, a popular Nashville area pastor says he believes in Santa Claus!

Pastor Maury Davis, whose rise from a near death sentence in Texas some 25 years ago to the head of Cornerstone Church, the largest and fastest growing Assembly of God church in the country, is no stranger to show stopping admissions.

In the recent past he raised the ire of some Christian ministers when he did an entire series of sermons on the Evil of Islam. He was even interviewed on national television and received several threats for his fundamentalist stand.

Now Pastor Davis is preaching about his belief in old Saint Nick. His sermon is a unique blend of the real story of the Fourth Century Bishop Nicholas of Turkey who was born into a very wealthy family and what has become the present day image of Santa Claus in America which most Christians see as a secular and negative icon. At an early age his parents died and he inherited a vast fortune. Being a good Christian, Nick looked for something to do with his wealth. As the story goes he was divinely appointed Bishop of Turkey, and used his wealth to help the needy. His generosity was discovered when he was 'caught' leaving a dowry for the daughter of a nobleman who had fallen on hard times. Stories about him spread throughout the Mediterranean and eventually to Europe where those telling the story changed the name to Sinder Kalus and Saint Nicholas.

The minister ends his sermon bringing the history of Santa Claus full circle to the story of Clement C. Moore's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' and ending the sermon on the spirit of giving fostered by the image of Old St. Nick- Santa Claus.

Former conservative talk show host Dave Macy has been a member of Cornerstone since 1997. He says Maury Davis is the ultimate contrarian.
"Pastor Davis' message about Santa is something that every church should be preaching. It's right up there with that letter that starts out, 'Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.' It should be required reading for every American," says Macy.
