A national survey undertaken by the American Dental Association (ADA) found that the smile outranked even the bluest of eyes as a person's most attractive physical feature.
The survey's findings were released to coincide with the launch of National Smile Month (17 May - 16 June) which runs simultaneously in the UK and USA. The month long campaign, organised by the British Dental Foundation, aims to promote the importance of both oral and overall body health.
As Brits become more aware of the importance of the perfect smile, cosmetic dentistry surgeons have reported a huge increase in demand for the treatment. In 2007 Britons spent a total of GBP350million on cosmetic dentistry.
