/24-7PressRelease/ - NEW YORK, NY, August 21, 2008 - Ruben Wills will be joined by supporters, participants, and hundreds of volunteers to kick off his " Walk To Washington" crusade in support of his electoral campaign for United States Congress. Mr. Wills is running for Queens, NY 6th Congressional District in September's Democratic primary election. The 241 mile walk will take place from August 19, 2008 to August 23, 2008 beginning in Jamaica Queens, NY and finishing in Washington, DC. This historic walk will expectantly garner the national support needed to combat issues that have plagued the Southeast Queens community.
"The purpose behind my walk is to show that my community is identical to so many other communities across the nation, we have the same issues - a need for youth and senior services, quality supermarkets, and a raised standard for our education and health care systems," said Wills. "This walk will spotlight the fact that we desire the same things safe streets, parks for our children to play, jobs created by emerging markets and our fair share of federal aid."
Wills stands unyielding in his belief that "this walk will gain the national attention that will garner the support we - and when I say we, I mean not just the 6th congressional district, but every community across the nation - will need to get the services we deserve. This is to show we are united, we will walk through this time of looming foreclosures, loss of jobs, food and gas spiraling out of control, together."

ABOUT RUBEN WILLS
Ruben Wills' roots are deeply imbedded in Queens, as he grew up in the heart of the South Jamaica Houses. Ruben has been a steadfast member of his community where he and his wife Marcia, have lived for the last 10 years. His commitment to the community has burrowed into every faucet. He has taught young men and women trades specific to the construction industry for the New York City Department of Youth & Community Development through Montessori Progressive Learning Center.
The betterment of Queens, especially Southeast Queens, has been his driving force. His zeal for community building took shape when at the age of 21; he established R&W Painting and Contracting Co. The company allowed Ruben to train and hire young adults including those who'd been incarcerated. Ruben is the founder of two community based organizations, the first being The Christian Basketball League Inc. which united over 60 churches. The second being New York 4 Life which has championed issues such as civic literacy, financial empowerment, and with there single parents initiatives has touched over 600 single mothers to date.
In 2003, Ruben saw first hand the workings of government as a confidential assistant to Councilman Leroy Comrie. He has stood shoulder to shoulder with State Senator Shirley Huntley as her Chief of Staff battling the mortgage foreclosure crisis, predatory lenders, and contractors, rising asthma rates in South East Queens and other issues that threaten our community's well being. With the voice of the community stifled and effective leadership waning, Ruben Wills has declared his candidacy for the United States 6th Congressional District, which includes Jamaica, St. Albans, Hollis, Queens Village, Cambria Heights, Far Rockaway, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park, Laurelton, and Rosedale. Ruben's vision is to serve with integrity, provide equity and bring back community evolvement in government. He truly believes that "Everyone matters & Everyone counts." Our expectations must be restored by spreading the message that it is, once again, alright to HOPE!
