PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 30, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/
-- In February 2017, a jury found in favor of plaintiffs in a lawsuit centering around the collapse of the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Center City Philadelphia in 2013 (Angelo Harmon as an administrator of the estate of Juanita Harmon, et al., v. The Salvation Army, et al., case number 130700720, in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County). The civil trial was historic not only because of its length - 17 weeks - but also because it resulted in the largest personal injury settlement in Pennsylvania history, according to a February 8, 2017, article by Philly.com
Now, the plaintiffs' attorneys involved in the landmark trial will be discussing the strategies used in achieving that settlement in a live webcast presentation at the CLE Conference Center in Philadelphia. Two of the attorneys involved in the case - Steven G. Wigrizer and Jason S. Weiss of Philadelphia personal injury law firm Wapner, Newman, Wigrizer, Brecher & Miller - said they are looking forward to sharing their experiences with audiences.
"It was a special day for our clients, our firm and Philadelphia," Wigrizer said. "When the jury announced their verdict, it was a validation of what we want our justice system to represent. Tragedies like the building collapse in 2013 are entirely preventable, and we believe that this verdict set a precedent that can teach us all lessons for years to come."
The October event, which will include several plaintiffs' attorneys involved in the trial, will include discussions about the trial, in addition to topics useful for legal practitioners, such as venue selection, calling defense witnesses on cross-examination and making closing arguments.
"The trial has become a subject of interest and fascination not just to attorneys, but also to the public," Wigrizer said. "We hope that through our involvement, we can help educate attorneys on how to litigate these cases so that justice can continue to prevail in our courts."
Information about registering for the event can be found at www.pbi.org
. The live webcast will last from 1:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on October 5.
