Mr. Bruner is a renowned attorney who is extremely well-versed in arbitration and mediation. Currently the director of JAMS Global Engineering and Construction panel of neutrals for the past 10 years, he formerly practiced as a litigator for 40 years with Faegre & Benson, Hart and Bruner P.A., and Briggs and Morgan P.A., in the heart of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Earning a Bachelor of Arts in history from Princeton University, Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Business Administration from Syracuse University, he began his legal career as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Air Force. Entering the private practice of law in 1967, he concentrated on construction, engineering, energy, and infrastructure litigation, and was lead counsel in more than 100 arbitrations and litigated cases in over 30 different states. Joining JAMS in 2008, he brought with him more than 40 years of expertise in his field of concentration.

The author and co-author of more than 50 professional articles in peer reviewed journals, he authored with his former law partner, Patrick J. O'Connor, Jr., the 12 volume legal treatise entitled "Bruner and O'Conner on Construction Law," now regarded as the most authoritative ever written on American law governing construction. Since its publication in 2002, the treatise has been cited by more than 400 judicial opinions published on Westlaw and issued by U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal, U.S. District Courts, state supreme, appellate and trial courts, U.S. and state courts of claims, and U.S. Commonwealth and Territorial Courts, as well as by countless arbitration awards, national and international law review articles, and administrative decisions.
Mr. Bruner has also chaired many professional conferences, and has presented over 350 lectures for professional and construction industry audiences across North and South America, Europe and Asia. He received a Norman Royce Prize from the British Society of Construction Arbitrators in 2011, and a Cornerstone Award from the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law in 2005, which is the highest award that the organization presents annually for exceptional service to the construction industry, the public and the legal profession. He also was decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal for his time served in the military. Married since 1964 to Ellen Carole Germann, Mr. Bruner is the proud parent of three children and grandfather of four grandchildren. His grandfather, Henry Lane Bruner, was featured in Who's Who in America (1943-1945) and, after his death in 1945, he was listed in Who Was Who (1945-1950).
