PMRESTA Announces Ice Rescue Course for NE Pennsylvania

    TAFTON, PA, January 01, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pocono Mountains Regional Emergency Services Training academy (PMRESTA) announces an Ice Rescue & Emergency Response Course instructed by Len Basara, Dive Master, Water Rescue Specialist and PA Fish and Boat Commission Instructor, on January 24 & 25, 2009 at the Tafton Fire Station on Route 507, Tafton PA and surrounding lake area.

This course is essential for any rescue unit involved in the possibility of an ice rescue and is designed to address the concerns associated with ice rescue and give the rescuer an idea of what to expect in an ice emergency. The course includes classroom and practical hands-on training in identifying ice conditions, using ice rescue equipment, and practicing shore, boat, and direct contact rescue techniques designed to help the rescuer realize the dangers and difficulties associated with ice rescue, and the necessity of focusing on the need for planning and training. This program meets or exceeds NFPA 1670 Technician-level guidelines.

Students will be required to enter the water and ice during the practical sessions and engage in strenuous activities in extreme conditions. Successful completion of all classroom and practical sessions as well as a written test is required for students to receive their certifications. This course is free to all participants.
