HAWLEY, PA, February 05, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- To meet this protocol, Pocono Mountains Regional Emergency Services Training Academy brings you CPAP Training and Certification for EMS Personnel plus an opportunity to discuss, plan and purchase your CPAP equipment all in one night.

CPAP Training will be held at Wallenpaupack Area High School, Hawley, PA on February 27, 2009 at 6:00 pm. The cost is $25.00 per student; Continuing Education Credits are two (2). Pre-registration is required.

This course will be instructed by Richard L. Bacon II, NR-EMT Instructor, PMRESTA Director of Training and Operations with a guest lecturer by Marybeth Hlavac, Consultant and Medical Equipment Representative, Managed Medical Specialties.

The basic principle of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is to apply a tight fitting mask to the patient controlled by a regulator designed to provide a high flow of variable or fixed oxygen concentration. The most important feature to CPAP is a flow restriction device at the exhalation port of the mask, which works the same way as Positive End Expiratory Pressure (PEEP). By placing the patient's airways under a constant level of pressure throughout the respiratory cycle, fluid and other obstructions will be "pushed" back where they belong.

CPAP is indicated for the treatment of severe respiratory distress, refractory to initial treatments of high-flow O2, without increase in O2 saturation, and/or decrease in breathing workload, seen in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure (CHF) and to a lesser degree, in asthma.

For additional information and pre-registration form, please visit PMRESTA on the web at http://www.training-ems.org or call 570-576-2929 today.
