/24-7PressRelease/ - MOORESVILLE, NC, February 28, 2007 - When Eric Anderson of Accessible Housing Solutions first spoke with the producers of Get Real, The Real Estate Investing Show for the Rest of Us, it didn't appear there was a compelling issue that would assist the show's listeners to learn to be better real estate investing entrepreneurs. The more Eric explained the clearer it became it was a natural fit.

Accessible housing and the Universal Design principles are not exactly standard real estate investing fair. They focus on developing housing that is useful for individuals with mobility issues who need a home that provides a way for the homeowner to stay independent. Not readily apparent is how this would help landlords and rehabbers improve their business.

Eric explained that accessible housing provides many benefits for the real estate investor. The most tangible is providing a home that appealing to a greater segment of the population. If a real estate investor is currently fixing up homes in a standard format they may miss out on a portion of the population that needs features such as front loading appliances, rocker panel light switches, and easily accessible entry ways. This could lead to a quicker sale or a reduced vacancy time on rental property.

A more esoteric benefit is gained from the principle of aging in place. As baby boomers age and need more accessible housing they will migrate to where this housing is available. If they are in a home currently that provides these needs they are more willing to continue to rent or this home. The more established a neighborhood the greater chance of reduced crime and blight, according to Anderson.
