/24-7PressRelease/ - December 23, 2005 - Politicks is a six-piece, eclectic rock band that fuses elements of RandB, hip-hop, jazz and Latin music into a hybrid style that treads the line between originality and commercial viability. Politicks' wide-ranging instrumentation marries the more traditional acoustic, electric and bass guitars and drum set with world percussion. The band operates as an independent machine, producing their recordings and creating artwork and content for their online and print presentation.
Politicks formed in the spring of 2001 at Radford University. Since returning to Northern VA in 2003, the band has expanded their fan base and performed along the East Coast from New York to Florida at venues and festivals including CBGB's, The Bottle and Cork, The State Theatre, Iota, Jammin Java, Soundquilt Music Festival, M.E.A.N.Y. Fest, and Connexion Music Festival. The band has also performed for Virginia's state universities including UVA, JMU, VT, GMU and RU. With the success of their Eclectic Skeptic album, Politicks has earned radio play on UPOP XM29, World Space international radio, Washington DC's largest FM rock station, DC101 and pop station Z104.
According to Jamie Talbot of Immortal Records, "Politicks is carving a niche all it's own that is contemporary and classic all at once." The Washington City Paper writes, "Politicks offers the American public both style and substance."
Vocalist Matthew Green is an astoundingly diverse singer who developed his distinct vocal style and range singing to RandB and hip-hop. Brian Chafin is a former all-state jazz guitarist and has been playing guitar for nine years. Bradford Moore began his musical career on drums, but switched to bass guitar and mandolin six years ago. Mike Trella has been playing guitar for almost a decade. He studied classical guitar and holds a Full Sail degree in Recording Engineering. Drummer Brendan McCourt brings 13 years of performance experience to the band and 10 years of classical training. William Waikart, the band's percussionist, is completing his studies in Music at George Mason University, and brings an explosive presence to the band's performances.
Slightly Something's first full band studio effort entitled "My Mind and My Shoes" is finally complete and scheduled for release on January 7th, 2006! The album contains a collection of ten original songs split into two sets of five songs, a full band set and an acoustic set both highlighting the band's energy and versatility.
