Port Au Prince Airport Temporarily Resumes Aircraft Operations
Stratos Jet Charters, Inc. reports that aircraft can land at airport with arrival slot time

WINTER PARK, FL, February 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stratos Jet Charters, Inc., a Florida-based jet charter agency, announced today that the Port Au Prince Airport (MTPP) has resumed normal aircraft operations and will be accessible to private jet charters until further notice.

Since the 7.0-magnitude earthquake devastated most of Port Au Prince last Tuesday, the airport has been so overwhelmed by jet aircraft, that there wasn't any room left on the tarmac for aircraft to park. This resulted in intermittent airport closures all week long, delaying flights carrying search crews and supplies.

New reports show that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. According to recent ATC reports, the airport has temporarily established "air traffic flow management procedures" that will allow for fixed-wing aircraft to land at Port Au Prince, once they receive an arrival slot time from the Haiti Flight Operations Coordination Center. All arriving flights with clearance will have a 20-minute window to land and are required to be on an active IFR flight plan prior to departure.

Stratos Jets is currently working around the clock to evacuate people in and out of Port Au Prince and to transport news crews and rescue missions safely to the chaotic earthquake site. Stratos Jets charter agents have been expertly trained to handle crisis situations such as the Haitian earthquake and can arrange charter flights from Ft. Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) to Port Au Prince with as little as four hours notice and in the safest, most-well maintained private aircraft.

News organizations or rescue teams carrying heavy equipment should keep in mind the Port Au Prince airport's 2,000 lbs total weight restriction and consider an alternate route to the Santo Domingo (MDSD), airport in nearby Dominican Republic. Currently, Stratos Jets agents can arrange a one-way flight to Santo Domingo on a 12-passenger jet aircraft for around $17,000.

Stratos Jet Charters will continue to update new information on the current Port Au Prince airport situation. To learn more about Stratos Jet Charters, visit them on the web at www.stratosjets.com.
