/24-7PressRelease/ - HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, June 06, 2006 - Several artists depict unimagined possibilities by creating forty two highly valuable works of art at the request of Positive Resistance; a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching foster youth that "A Broken Home Does Not Mean a Broken Life." The benefit, MASTERS and APPRENTICES: Defending Dreams, will take place Saturday August 19th at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum, proceeds will allow ten emancipated foster youth to study art in Paris, France, for one week next summer.
Most people enter the world with a support system, someone with hands that are strong enough to guide them through the tasks of adolescence and clap on the day of their high school graduation. Foster youth touched nationwide by Positive Resistance now have the supportive hands of seasoned artists like French surrealist Gil Bruvel, Sandra Cooper, Ron Burkhardt the father of Notism, Laddie John Dill, James Zar and Violet Parkhurst, whose collectors include President George Bush Sr. and King Faud of Saudi Arabia; she is also noted as the first American to be collected by the China National Museum of Fine Arts.
Each artist constructed three "dreams" on flat 5 x 7 inch canvases and was instructed to sign the back, making each piece anonymous to the viewer. The dream-like inventions of the 'Masters' are mixed in with 'Apprentices', which offers the appeal of a scavenger hunt when one considers the average cost of a Masters' large scale painting is $43,000. The 'Apprentices' are established emerging artists on the forefront of innovation such as Mario Robinson, abstractionist Ryan Martin, photorealist Mara Light, Derek Baron, Daniel Franco, Robin Strayhorn and Keariene Muizz, who is also the director of Positive Resistance.
According to Ms. Muizz, "Our every expectation is for youth to construct a new representation of who they are through art, learn cultural and ethnic tolerance, while building a sense of self-sufficiency. Knowing they can travel to a foreign country with support and ease youth will come to the realization that they can also travel into the adult world with a sense of confidence."
Patrons can reserve an art piece for $250.00, a fraction of the actual value. While Positive Resistance has the support of actress Victoria Rowell and the Rowell Foster Children's Positive Plan the volunteers of Positive Resistance insist that more community support is needed.
