Potomac Photonics to Demonstrate New Micro-Fabrication Capabilities at MicroTech Conference in Boston

New process to design and produce micro-wireless sensors to be demonstrated by Potomac Photonics at the MicroTech Conference.

LANHAM, MD, June 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laser micromachining company, Potomac Photonics, will demonstrate new micro-fabrication technologies at the MicroTech conference to be held in Boston on June 14th and 15th, 2011.

Potomac is creating a new process to design and produce micro-wireless sensors based on a National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research grant. This new approach allows for high component packing density and significant size reduction of wireless sensor nodes through the use of fine-feature nanoparticle silver conductors and embedding of surface mount packaged components. It means nearly arbitrary 3-D forms can be created. Of particular interest is the technique's ability to scale from small batch to high volume production at reduced cost. Potential products include: sensors, microfluidics devices, medical devices and microelectronics.

In addition, Potomac will unveil its combination of complementary technologies for total solutions to customer micro-manufacturing problems. One example is laser micromachining and spin coating of specialized materials that are combined to create microfluidic devices.

Potomac will screen continual video in Booth # 1914 at the MicroTech Exhibit Hall. Technology specialists will also be available to discuss specific customer needs in micro-fabrication.

Dr. C. Paul Christensen, pioneer in the invention of lasers and laser micromachining applications, is heading this R&D project. Dr. Christensen founded Potomac Photonics nearly 30 years ago to commercialize his new miniaturized excimer laser invention. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of CA, Berkeley and a Master's degree in electrical engineering from MIT.
