MALAGA, SPAIN, September 23, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Work is now well underway at Gibraltar's Ocean Village extending the berth offering from 225 to 323. Scheduled to complete for winter 2009/10, the expansion will include premium berths of up to 90 metres (295ft in old money) to cater for the ever-expanding megayacht market.
Brian Stevendale, Sales & Marketing Director for Ocean Village, comments, "The half million pound berth expansion programme is just one part of ongoing land reclamation and development which has already seen Leisure Island emerge from the sea, now home to popular nightspots including Gibraltar's only casino. On the sheltered west of the Rock, with close-up views of Africa some 14km across the Straits, Ocean Village is not only adding berths to accommodate the megayacht elite, but also a select number of Waterside Villas & Mansions which will have their own private mooring on their doorstep. Taking everything into consideration from cut-price fuel and Cat 1 Red Ensign Group status to a strategic Europe-meets-Africa location and fashionable nightspots, Ocean Village is now poised to compete with the Mediterranean's finest."
The additional 98 berths, 20 of which are over 20 metres (66 ft) in length, are tagged 'premium' due to the wealth of services on offer. Security is given prominence with 24-hour patrols and gated coded entry to the pontoons. Additional facilities include boat-lifting, laundry services, wi-fi and satellite TV access, a golf buggy hire service to transport supplies, bathroom facilities with multi-jet showers and hair dryers, yacht brokerage and full concierge to include car hire, office administration and private catering. Occupiers of premium berths will also be presented with an 'Ocean Village Privilege Card' offering crews concessions in certain stores, the health club and more.
Gibraltar's foremost mixed-use marina project, Ocean Village is all-inclusive with dining, entertainment, retail, office space and three residential plazas up to 17 storeys high accessing seven swimming pools and a health club. Berthing here not only makes financial sense (marine fuel is around 40% cheaper than neighbouring Spain) but it also makes an ideal base for soaking up a sophisticated nightlife and exploring the marinas and beaches which populate the North African and Spanish coastlines.
Daily rates for Ocean Village's new berths start from as little as GBP15.50 for a 15 metre berth rising to GBP450 per day for vessels above 75 metres (low season). A 20% discount is available for annual bookings when paid in advance in full. Demand is high and waiting lists exist for certain LOA.
