RALEIGH, NC, January 16, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The January General Meeting of the Institute of Real Estate Management Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter 105 (IREM) will feature Dr. Dianne Boardley Suber, President of Saint Augustine's College, whose presentation is entitled "This Is The House That Jack Built". The meeting will be held at noon on Wednesday, January 20th at the Renaissance Hotel at North Hills in Raleigh.
Dr. Suber is the first female to lead Saint Augustine's College and is an experienced educator and administrator with 24 years of teaching, consulting and administrative experience in preschool and higher education. She has served as a classroom teacher; elementary and middle school principal, university professor and consultant to several national educational organizations. Prior to assuming the helm at Saint Augustine's College, Dr. Suber held administrative positions of increasing responsibility at Hampton University in Hampton, VA, including vice president for administrative services (1998-99), assistant provost for academic affairs (1996-97), assistant provost (1994-95), dean of administrative services (1992-93), and adjunct professor in the Graduate College of Education (1986-90).
Dr. Suber's presentation will highlight the importance and impact of "town and gown" relationships in an ever changing economic cycle, the challenges of being able to prepare students for career opportunities that are non-existent at this point in their educational experiences, and the critical attributes that partnerships—such as the IREM/Saint Augustine's College model—must include to ensure the demands of accountability and accreditation when the corporate sector and the academic community choose to partner.
"The Center for Real Estate Management and Development program at Saint Augustine's College has opened up a new direction of study for the students at the college and faculty as well," says Dr. Suber. "The opportunity for students to define themselves in a nontraditional track of study is exciting and offers the leadership of the college a direction on which to focus students of color with the same degree of energy and commitment as that of expanding their pursuits in careers of science and mathematics. I'm pleased to have the opportunity to talk with the members and guests of IREM and look forward to continuing to build on our strong and valuable relationship."
Attendees of the presentation will gain a clearer understanding of the importance of collaborative initiatives between corporate America and The Academy, as well as a sense of the challenges that visionary leadership faces when attempting to change or adjust historical practices, and/or move traditionalists to considering alternative ways of either teaching or doing business.
Guests and Associate members are cordially invited to attend this event. A $40.00 fee, payable in advance, is required. Please make checks payable to IREM Chapter 105, 4824 Wyatt Brook Way, Raleigh, NC 27609.
