Pressure Ulcer Prevention A Primary Concern For Wound Care Clinicians, DM Systems Report Says

Clinicians identify top attributes of the most successful heel offloading devices

The reputation and credibility of practicing wound care specialists depends in part on their use of products that provide the best treatment outcome for their patients

EVANSTON, IL, January 14, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Primary care clinicians who work in wound care with surgical or immobile patients continue to feel that the most effective way to treat pressure ulcers is to prevent them in the first place. That was a key finding in a recent market survey conducted by Kelly Market Strategies for DM Systems, Inc.

Clinicians surveyed for the report stated that because pressure ulcers are difficult to treat and heal, it's imperative that patients have access to products that successfully offload the heel for better pressure ulcer prevention. Key desired attributes of preferred heel offloading devices include:
- Ease of use
- Prevention of foot drop
- Effective management of heat and moisture
- Restricted foot rotation
- Durable and easy to clean
- Comfortable for patient to wear long term

"It's clear from this study that clinicians care about the products they recommend to their patients and seek heel offloading devices that will provide the best treatment outcome," said Dr. Denis B. Drennan, founder of DM Systems Inc.

"At the same time, we were gratified to hear that many of the product attributes desired by podiatrists and wound care specialists accurately describe the Heelift line of pressure ulcer prevention products."

Heelift offers a number of offloading devices, including:
- Heelift Glide Offloading Boot - An innovative design that includes a soft, smooth exterior fabric that allows the patient's leg to glide from side to side without catching on sheets and blankets, thereby improving patient comfort and compliance.
- Heelift AFO Boot - Indicated for a number of conditions, including dorsiflexion ankle support for paralyzed legs, treatment and prevention of plantar flexion contracture, treatment of plantar fasciitis, treatment and prevention of foot drop deformity, and treatment of Achilles tendonitis.

"The reputation and credibility of practicing wound care specialists depends in part on their use of products that provide the best treatment outcome for their patients," Dr. Drennan said. "Our company values the opportunity to work with practicing clinicians to identify treatment priorities and respond with the products and services that provide the best solutions for pressure ulcer prevention."
