Prime Motor Group Participates in Toys for Tots Toy Drive, Donating Over 500 Toys

Prime Motor Group collects over 500 toys during their Toys for Tots Drive.

BOSTON, MA, December 25, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For the second year in a row, Prime Motor Group has set up Toys for Tots collection sites at each of their 24 dealerships. Employees and customers have come together to fill a Mercedes convertible and four large boxes with toys. The boxes were set up in the showroom and service departments of each of their dealerships. Jason Uttaro from the Mercedes Benz store in Westwood was in charge of collecting all of the toys for each location and bringing them to back Mercedes where the Marines would pick them up. Jason said there were nearly 600 toys in total, almost doubling last year's collection.

Marla Demba, Human Resources Director said "the Marines are doing such a great thing and we are happy to be a part of it!" Marla is in charge of the toy drive and says she looks forward to this new Prime Motor Group tradition next year. Owners David Rosenberg and Matt McGovern were proud of the efforts of the Prime employees and outcome of the toy drive. According to McGovern, "the Toys for Tots program is a great way to give back to the community and help brighten the holidays of kids that are a little less fortunate."

About Toys for Tots:
The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks. Toys for Tots began as a Los Angeles charitable effort in 1947. Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, was inspired by his wife Diane when she tried to donate a homemade Raggedy Ann doll to a needy child but could find no organization to do so. At her suggestion, he gathered a group of local Marine reservists, including Lieutenant Colonel John Hampton,[3] who coordinated and collected some 5,000 toys for local children that year from collection bins placed outside of Warner Bros. movie theaters.[3] Their efforts were so successful that, in 1948, Toys for Tots was launched as a national campaign. Hendricks used his position as director of Public Relations for Warner Brothers Studio to enlist celebrity support, as well as have Walt Disney Studios design the red toy train logo.
