/24-7PressRelease/ - AMMAN, JORDAN, July 14, 2005 - On Saturday July 2, 2005 Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) held its 11th Graduation ceremony for the year of 2004/2005, under the patronage of her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya Bint El Hassan.

The 2004/2005 graduates numbered 193 students, majoring in the fields of Computer Science and Electronics Engineering. Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya, PSUT's Chair of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Hisham Ghassib, PSUT's president, and Abdullah Abu Rumuh, the first amongst the EE batch of graduates, addressed the audience with their thoughts and hopes for the future education and development of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

A number of distinguished students, both academically and in extra-curricular activities, received awards in token of their achievements.

Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya addressed the graduating class by reminding them of the importance of education in Arab and Islamic history and culture. During her speech, Princess Sumaya addressed the audience stating, "Today we are faced with a situation where some people consider any different or innovative style of education as being alien to us and our culture, and consequently reject it wholesale." She added, "It was Arabs who were responsible for the revival of learning and the rediscovery of scientific methods on European soil. It was they who founded universities in the modern sense in Spain and in today's Arab world."

Princess Sumaya addressed the graduates, "I am calling on you to bridge our genuine past with our promised future, and to link our culture with its international counterparts."

PSUT's President, Prof. Hisham Ghassib, focused on the need to graduate mature students, real thinking subjects endowed with responsible, independent, coherent and critical minds, capable of taking rational decisions.

He also made it a point to set our educational institutions the task of building rational consciousness as a basis of morals, right action and meaningful interaction.

Abdullah Abu Rumuh, a PSUT graduating student spoke on behalf of his fellow graduates, and expressed their appreciation of and gratitude for PSUT's support and dedication. Abu Rumuh emphasized His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision to give education a high priority and regard it a crucial pillar in the Kingdom's sustainable development. Abu Rumuh urged his fellow graduates to work hard and provide what it is possible to preserve Jordan's pride and honor.

As the speakers discussed the development of Jordan, the audience was also made aware of PSUT's 10-year master-plan to expand the university's premises, taking into account the required academic and physical needs of its students and staff.
