Many businesses are experiencing cancellation of contracts as established customers are reigning in costs. When asked whether this had been a problem for Tutors International, Adam replied "No. We haven't lost a single client. I think there are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, there is less pressure on our clients' budgets. Secondly, if there is a need to evaluate expenditure, these families will prioritise keeping their live-in tutor above many other things. Even though times are hard for many, and this is an unusual recession given its global nature, excellent education for their children remains a priority. They see the value," Adam added. "They see the impact that a private tutor has on their child's education and development and will only consider giving that up in dire circumstances. Full-time tutors become an integral part of family life, and rapidly become a necessity, rather than a luxury."
The current economic crisis has created a constant stream of bad news, amongst which have been reports of the private education sector suffering from the effects of redundancies in the banking sector. "There's a tendency to think that all aspects of the economy are affected in the same way, but the impact of the credit crunch on the lives of people fortunate enough to be in the position to afford a full-time private tutor is less than in other sectors of the population," Adam commented. "Whilst affluent families may have lost a huge amount of value on shares and property, their asset base is so large and varied that it doesn't affect them in the same way as a family with only one or two revenue streams. Collectively, these factors have ensured that the demand for full-time live-in tutors has been unaffected."
