Private school closures lead to increased demand for home schooling by full-time private tutors
Parents are turning to full-time private tuition as an alternative to private education at independent schools, as many establishments close due to the credit crunch

OXFORD, UK, April 22, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tutors International announces an increase in enquiries for full-time private tutors due to the closure of a significant number of independent schools across the UK. Almost 20 private schools have either already been closed or announced that they will be closing in the next few months. For some families, moving the children to another comparable school can cause huge logistical difficulties, and so many are turning to private tutors for the full-time home schooling of their children instead. For more information, visit http://www.tutors-international.com or call +44 (0) 1865 435 135.

"The closure of a school can be very distressing for everyone involved," commented Adam Caller, founder of Tutors International. "It's not only distressing for the staff losing their jobs and the children whose education is being disrupted, but also incredibly stressful for the parents of these children. Not everyone has been hit by the credit crunch, and the parents who can still afford private school fees find themselves in a situation where they have to find a suitable alternative as quickly as possible to avoid any further damage to their child's education, some of whom are in critical exam years. There may not be another suitable private establishment nearby, leading to logistical issues that are sometimes incredibly difficult to resolve. We have spoken to parents who are looking for a creative solution, and a full-time private tutor is the best solution for many of them."

When asked what kind of questions are being asked during these enquiries, Adam replied; "The most common concern is about the social aspect of having their children home schooled by a private tutor. That's always easy to answer; our tutors find a wide variety of clubs and activities providing ample opportunities for social contact, besides, the assumption that a school provides the best social environment is not always correct. Questions about fees are rarely a problem," he added. "Private school fees vary, as do the tutor fees, but if there are three children in the family, it is always cheaper to home school them with a dedicated full-time private tutor. Parents realise that children schooled by our tutors benefit from more attention, greater help for exams and more support for university applications both at home and abroad. Whilst I have no wish to see independent schools close, as many children are very happy attending them, I do believe that these changes are bringing about a welcome change in attitude towards home schooling."
