Professional Pig Roasters Help Liquid Church Raise $70,000 for Charity

    MORRISTOWN, NJ, September 11, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Professional pit masters/pig roasters, the Porkers provided 200 pounds of pulled pork on the Morristown Green for members of Liquid Church who participated in a charity run for clean water this past Sunday.

Called the "Rock and Run for Africa" more than 1,000 Liquid Church members and others ran and walked a 5K through Morristown raising more than $70,000 to drill wells for clean water in Africa. Immediately after the run they were treated to pulled pork sandwiches - donated by the Porkers - and a rock concert on the Green. Pulled pork is typically made from a mixture of the blade shoulder and arm shoulder meat, served with a spicy barbecue sauce on a hard roll (see www.pigcooks.com).

"After a hard run, there's nothing better than an amazingly delicious pulled-pork sandwich from the Porkers. Michael Achey and company provided the pork and dished it out with style," says Tim Lucas, Pastor of Liquid Church.

"It was very cool to play a supportive role in Liquid Church's efforts to raise money for the world's poorest," says Michael Achey of the Porkers.

Liquid's goal this year is to raise $250,000 to fund the purchase of a drill that could bore one new well every week across Africa in 2010. The church members raised $50,000 during the three weeks prior to Easter this year, when they gave up their Starbucks, Red Bull and wine purchases. Instead, members donated the money they would have spent on their indulgences to the clean water cause. With Sunday's fundraiser, the church is nearly halfway to its goal, according to Lucas.

The Porkers mastered the art of pig roasting after hundreds of BBQ's and a relentless desire to create the perfect entrees, including pulled pork sandwiches. Achey and partners specialize in bringing a whole pig on a spit to any location in the NY metropolitan area.
