Favre retired in tears a few months ago. Then he unretired. But his employer, the Green Bay Packers management, refuses to give him his job back, even though last year he had one of his greatest seasons and almost carried his team to the Super Bowl. Packers management clearly wants Favre to re-retire. But they have said he can return, and earn millions, as a backup to former UC Berkeley star Aaron Rodgers.
"It's a crime against sports heroism," says Freiberger, an award-winning author and resume writer. "Bart Starr was my idol as a boy. I can't let the Packers insult Starr's great disciple.
"Too many companies exaggerate the benefits of hiring young," Freiberger adds. "Favre is a great case study for a business seeking to improve its human capital. This individual has extraordinary skills. He just needs to be proactive."
Freiberger advises Favre to present his resume to executives of teams pining to dismantle the Packers. He also suggests taking it to NFL officials who care about TV ratings. "When Favre plays, people watch. Will they tune in for Aaron Rodgers?" he says. "I've got a sample resume on my website that I'd like to customize just for him. It will help him highlight many of his impressive accomplishments, including his performances in the freezing cold."
So-called experts on cable news claim that Favre is hurting his legacy. Freiberger says his resume will win it back for him. "Nothing has happened that Shimmering Resumes and few touchdown passes can't cure."
