/24-7PressRelease/ - SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND, February 28, 2008 - Designed by local fitness company Gamercize; The Saints branded Gamercize Gym Pods equipped with Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 can be played in the fitness centres so long as the player keeps working out.

Saints in the Community together with the Active Southampton partnership have introduced the fitness technology at both St Mary's Sports Centre and Chamberlayne Leisure Centre in Southampton.

Jayne Ludden, Sport and Recreation Services Manager for Southampton City Council commented - "We are committed to increasing opportunities and access for active participation amongst young people in the City. This innovative approach in partnership with Southampton Football Club and Gamercize is an initiative that compliments Active Southampton challenge of getting the people of Southampton active 30 minutes a day."

Saints winger Nathan Dyer officially launched the new project at Chamberlayne Leisure Centre on Thursday 21st February 2008. Nathan Dyer jumped on for his first look and was soon keen to help introduce the technology to the PlayStation generation saying "You get children sitting down playing this for hours and not moving so I think this is a good way of obviously exercising while playing the games."

Sixty children from the Chamberlayne Leisure Centre's play scheme got an unexpected half term treat when Nathan signed autographs and then were allowed to play and exercise on the new equipment. Speaking to local TV the children were full of praise, summed up by one young girl who said "It's a good way to stay exercising and have fun at the same time".
