MILPITAS, CA, March 28, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Quantros President and Chief Medical Officer Sanjaya Kumar, MD, MPH, will be a featured panelist at the 2010 Missouri Center for Patient Safety (MOCPS) Conference on April 6 in Columbia, MO.

Kumar's talk is entitled, "Triggering Safety Improvements--A Proactive Approach." Joining him on the panel will be two patient safety leaders from Sisters of Mercy Healthcare System of St. Louis, MO, Glen Mitchell, MD, MPH, Vice President of Clinical Safety, and Sue Sinclair, RN, LCSW, CCM, the Executive Director of Mercy Safety Center.

Quantros, Inc. is a provider of web-based software and related services to healthcare organizations in the areas of patient safety, clinical performance improvement and accreditation and compliance. Kumar, who co-founded the company over a decade ago, serves on numerous quality improvement committees, task forces and working groups including the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management Data Safety Committee and the National Patient Safety Foundation Safety Product Vendor Selection Criteria Committee. Kumar is also the author of, Fatal Care: Survive in the U.S. Health System (IGI Press, 2008).

On April 7, Jenny Bell, RN, Executive Director of the Quantros Patient Safety Center (QPSC), will participate in several sessions at a meeting of Missouri hospitals involved in the state's Patient Safety Organization (PSO). One of Bell's sessions will focus on Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP) collection, common data formats and establishing a user friendly platform for collection, analysis and reporting of the data and information.

Approximately five years ago, federal lawmakers passed a law to allow for the creation of PSOs to improve quality and safety through the collection and analysis of data on patient events. Missouri is the first state in the nation to legislate that its hospitals join a PSO and submit information on serious reportable events and hospital acquired conditions including infections to the PSO. The legislation became effective this past January.

By providing both privilege and confidentiality, PSOs create a secure environment for the collection, aggregation, and analysis of data. In addition to developing its own PSO, Quantros has leases technology to help other PSOs manage data collection and reporting. Quantros technology provides support for the state of Missouri's PSO.
