Quinn-Direct Offers Young Drivers Fuel-Friendly Motoring Tips

Quinn-Direct provides tips and advice to young drivers on how to save money when it comes to fuel costs.

LONDON, ENGLAND, November 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A recent study from www.energyrethinking.org (an organisation that helps people use less energy) has highlighted that younger drivers are not particularly fuel conscious in their driving habits, their driving styles tend to use more fuel than more established motorists.

According to the study, these bad driving habits are costing young drivers more money to stay on the road than perhaps they should do. The research showed that only half of those young drivers questioned knew how fuel efficient their cars were against over two-thirds of experienced drivers.

The study also showed that young drivers are more likely to use their cars for short journeys (often under a mile) and are very image conscious, with 'green' cars such as hybrids etc attracting scepticism.

Specialist car insurance provider Quinn-direct has issued some reminders to young drivers as to how they can use their car in a more energy saving way:

- Make sure that your car tyres are inflated to the correct pressure readings. Incorrect tyre pressures can cause the engine to work harder and consume more fuel.
- Never leave the engine idling - figures from energyrethinking.org say that for every two minutes a car is idling, it uses around the equivalent amount of fuel it takes to travel one mile. So, get in your car, put on your seat belt and adjust all your mirrors, then start the engine.
- Unless you are going on a long journey, try not to drive around with a tank full of fuel as the extra weight will cause you to use more petrol or diesel.
- Finally, for shorter journeys, ditch the car and walk!

Quinn-direct say that of course, it's not just about changing driving habits in order to save money, there are other motoring costs that younger motorists need to be aware of too. Certainly, cheap car insurance for young drivers is not a phrase you hear very often, but there are ways that younger motorists may be able to get discounted car insurance.

Quinn-direct also provide free breakdown cover with any young driver insurance, saving the cost of having to buy standalone cover.
