R. Daniel Beauchamp, M.D., F.A.C.S., Joins the Ranks of Leading Professionals

    NASHVILLE, TN, August 3, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. R. Daniel Beauchamp, Professor and Chairman of the Section of Surgical Sciences for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in surgical oncology.

R. Daniel Beauchamp, M.D., F.A.C.S., has a clinical practice focused in surgical oncology. He cares for patients with a broad spectrum of malignancies, including gastrointestinal tract cancers including esophageal and colorectal cancers, breast cancer, melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma.

Dr. Beauchamp is the John Clinton Foshee Distinguished Professor of Surgery, Chairman of the Section of Surgical Sciences, and Surgeon-in-Chief of Vanderbilt University Hospital and has held these positions since July 2001. He also has joint appointments as Professor in the departments of Cell and Developmental Biology and Cancer Biology. He also serves as Associate Director for Clinical/Translational Programs in the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Dr. Beauchamp joined the faculty of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center as Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology and Associate Professor of Cell Biology in December 1994. He served as the chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology from 1997 until 2001 when he assumed his current position as Chief of Surgery. His ongoing institutional administrative responsibilities also include the Chair of the Perioperative Enterprise Committee, and service on the Perioperative Executive Committee, the VMG Executive Committee, the Medical School Executive Committee, the Clinical Enterprise Group, the Quality Council, the ELEVATE Steering Committee, and the Surgical Critical Care Steering Committee.

In addition to clinical practice and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Beauchamp is an active investigator in the field of cancer biology and cancer clinical trials. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in these fields and has had continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health for more than 18 years.

In 1982, he received his MD from University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He received his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 1978 from Texas Tech University. In 2009, he received the Frank Boehm Continuing Education Award from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He also received the American Top Surgeons Award in 2008 and the Best Doctor of America Award and American Top Doctor for Cancer Award in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Vanderbilt is one of the top 15 medical schools in the country and one of the top 10 research funding support from the federal government nationally.
