The event, titled the HREI: Hines Real Estate Institute, was held from May 17-18 and focused on trends in the real estate market and the outlook for global investing.
"As a result of world events and market swings, we are presented with a unique situation where investing in international real estate may be appropriate for some investors," says Merritt. "The knowledge gained from meeting with my peers will be invaluable in assisting my clients to determine whether or not an investment in real estate should be included in their portfolio since such investments should be considered long-term and have various risks including the possible lack of liquidity and devaluation based on adverse economic and regulatory changes."
International real estate is considered a different asset class than domestic investments. During the event, Merritt added to his real estate knowledge, learning about emerging international trends and long-term worldwide opportunities.
A bonus at the event, sessions were taught on increasing workplace productivity. Merritt received tips and insight on fueling success and performance from Shawn Achor, author of the book, "The Happiness Advantage."
