NASSAU, BAHAMAS, October 22, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rachel Pinder, principal broker of Island Living Real Estate in Nassau, recently spoke at a legal seminar about the importance of real estate appraisals.

The Oct. 4 seminar was presented by the law firm of Halsbury Chambers during its fourth annual free legal clinic attended by nearly 400 people. This year's theme was "Information You Need for the Life You Want."

Pinder was asked to speak at the clinic because many Bahamians aren't familiar with the appraisal process, she said. It is important for people to know what should be in an appraisal report. If people are making improvements to their properties, it's helpful to know what improvements add more value and make the home more marketable.

Appraisals are required by most lending institutions to help them determine the market value in relation to the amount of money a potential homebuyer wants to borrow. They also are useful in determining the value of a home for insurance purposes, which helps homeowners ensure that they carry an adequate amount of insurance.

"I liked having the opportunity to speak to fellow Bahamians about the benefits of an appraisal and how to make a good investment because I think it is important for us to make good financial decisions that will positively impact the future of our great country," Pinder said.
