MONTEREY PARK, CA, February 26, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Established in 2004, RCI, together with local hospitals, labs, and clinics, have trained and educated hundreds of students towards new careers in the medical field. The Institute has recently introduced an 80 hour CPT 1 Phlebotomy Program which is proving to be the most popular of their course offerings. Over 80 percent of RCI students receive job offers following their work with the region's many medical providers.

"I'm excited about providing our students guidance and technical knowledge, as well as helping towards their goal of becoming Certified California Phlebotomy Technicians. We hope to help our students, from any background, enjoy a fruitful career in laboratory sciences." said RCI's Phlebotomy program directory.

California is one of only two states that require Phlebotomists to complete coursework and an externship before taking the national certification examination. Since the requirement passed the state has seen a sharp increase in the number of people seeking the certification. Regan Career Institute's Phlebotomy program aims to provide a comprehensive and convenient program for training qualified phlebotomy technicians in California.

"The short but effective course format allows me to work while going to school. Becoming a Phlebotomist will help my career in the future so I can spend more quality time with my newborn kids", said Jason, a recent RCI graduate.

Students in the new RCI program will complete a 40-hour course in the classroom and a 40-hour externship at a medical site.

The first part of the course teaches students about disease control, anatomy, medical terminology, vein selection and patient identification. Then students go on to learn about biohazard techniques, risk factors and legal issues associated with blood collection and venipuncture.

The phlebotomy program is just one way the college is beefing up its medical programs. According to Mr. Lee, the school also is in the process of redesigning their IV/Blood Withdrawal and EKG/ECG certification programs as well as other programs needed by today's medically affiliated employers.

RCI's Phlebotomy program was approved by the State of California's Department of Health Services and after the 80 hours of classroom and externship time, students are qualified to take the national certification exam.
