/24-7PressRelease/ - February 08, 2008 - Valentines Day is nearly here and it is estimated that this year over 1 billion cards will be sent. But according to general research on dating behaviour, the period between the December holidays and Valentine's Day is National Break-up Season when people are more than twice as likely to think about breaking up than at any other time of the year. And it seems that men are most likely to regret it.

According to a Public Opinion Strategies poll, 50 percent of single men still pine over an old flame compared to just 27 percent of single women. So it may be regret rather than love that is on a number of men's minds this February the 14th.

Andrew Holmes from online forum iwishidsaid.com backs up these figures. "We get far more messages of regret regarding past relationships made by men than we do women" Explains Andrew. "But we have also had a few success stories where both people have felt the same and got back together after seeing each others entries on the site".

So when you consider that 85% of all valentines cards are purchased by women, and half of single men regret a break-up, it may mean that single women are just as likely to get a message from an ex-partner as they are a valentine from a secret admirer.
