/24-7PressRelease/ - HOUSTON, TX, February 01, 2008 - For its efforts to protect the environment through conserving water and energy, the Renaissance Houston Hotel has earned the prestigious ENERGY STAR label from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

With a congratulatory letter from the co-chairs of Marriott's Green Council, which was established to integrate environmental sustainability into Marriott's business strategy, Renaissance Houston, TX Hotel learned that they earned the highly coveted ENERGY STAR label from the EPA.

"Environmentally-minded consumers are becoming more and more prevalent in this day and age and are beginning to drive the market in terms of searching for and staying at environmentally-friendly lodging destinations," explains Dean Peters, the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Renaissance Houston. "Now, more than ever, the hospitality industry is seeing the benefits of marketing 'green stories,' both for themselves and for the public as a whole, and we are thrilled to be able to take part in such a good cause."

The Energy Star Award is given to businesses that take significant steps to reduce energy consumption, thereby reducing their carbon footprint. This industry-leading green hotel in Houston has taken numerous steps to earn this recognition. Having installed an Energy Management System to control the A/C and heating systems, they are controlling the amount of time each unit runs and more accurately controlling the temperature set point, thereby reducing energy costs.

This luxury hotel in Houston, TX has also invested in a variable speed drive for the chilled water supply. By controlling the speed of the pump, based on demand, they are also reducing their energy use. The toilets have also been replaced throughout the building. By replacing older 3.0 gallon per flush toilets with 1.6 gallon per flush toilets, they reduced the water consumption per flush by almost half, not only saving dollars for the hotel, but saving on the valuable water supply, and therefore, also reducing their carbon footprint.

Being an honored ENERGY STAR Partner is a prestigious title that the Renaissance Houston Hotel takes seriously. Look forward to other "green" changes that the hotel will be making in the new year and beyond, to continue to lighten their carbon footprint on the earth.
