BROOKLYN, NY, August 04, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hop A Long Hollow has been named the August 2011 beneficiary for Rescue Chocolate, the vegan chocolate company which donates 100% of its profits to various animal rescue organizations.
The rabbit rescue group, based in Norwalk, Connecticut, plans to use the donation from Rescue Chocolate to further its rescue and educational programs:

• Providing immediate medical attention to all animals arriving at the shelter
• Insuring that all animals are spayed or neutered before adoption
• Placing rabbits and small animals in new homes or safe foster care
• Working with other animal rescue organizations
• Holding educational events about pet care at pet stores, the local zoo, and area schools

According to Rescue Chocolate founder Sarah Gross, the group's work with rabbits is what drew her to Hop A Long Hollow. "Normally we are focused on the dogs and cats, because those are the animals people think of when you talk about pets and the problem with overpopulation," she said. "But a lot of the issues apply to rabbits as well. Adoptive homes are desperately needed for domesticated rabbits. They can't survive in the wild."
Her company offers a product line of kosher and vegan chocolate bars and truffles. Each flavor is named after an issue important in the animal rescue world. For example, there are bars called Peanut Butter Pit Bull, Pick Me! Pepper, Foster-iffic Peppermint, The Fix, and Mission Feral Fig.
Gross cautions that while sales ultimately benefit the animals, her chocolate products are only for human consumption.
The chocolate company was founded in January 2010. Products are sold in retail outlets around the country as well as online.
